Former Texas Tech DB dies in fatal accident

Ex-Texas Tech defensive back Derrick Briggs, who was on the team during coach Mike Leach’s first season in Lubbock, died as a result of an auto accident in Houston, says the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
He was killed early Wednesday morning after an collision on Interstate 10, according to a spokeswoman at the medical examiner’s office on Thursday. Briggs’ 31st birthday was Wednesday.
He started every game as a cornerback in the 2000 season, the year Leach signed on as coach at Texas Tech.
