Police discovered the fully dressed body of a 49-year-old man floating with his face downwards in Newport Harbor this morning just before seven, police reported. 

A resident of the area recognized the man, but officials are not giving away his identity until his family has been informed of the fatality, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Shontel Sherwood stated.

The body was discovered by two kayakers behind Orange Coast College’s sailing base, she added. The incident is being handled and examined by the homicide unit, but details about the man’s death or the reasons behind it are unknown, Sherwood stated. 

An investigation is pending.
