A San Jose mother stepped out of her car Tuesday to go get her daughter when a man jumped in the vehicle and drove away in an attempt to repossess it, not knowing her 2-year-old was asleep in the backseat.
Isabel Luevano immediately called the police thinking her son and car had been stolen.
A search team and a helicopter was sent out to look for the young boy. The owner of the dealership who had the car, 47-year-old Alberto Luna, realized the boy was in the backseat then informed the authorities.
The boy was returned safely to his mother. Luna told the police that he did break the law by failing to check the identification number on the vehicle before taking it.
A full investigation into the incident is being conducted.
