Police chase ends in two-car accident
Two men were taken into custody on Saturday night after a police pursuit that resulted in an accident by the 5 freeway.
SWAT members tried to pull over a truck at 7:42 p.m. Saturday under suspicion of carrying narcotics at 17th and Main streets, stated Santa Ana Police Sgt. Brad Sadler. The truck driver failed to stop and sped away, forcing officers to chase after it.
The pursuit was a short one, as the pick-up truck went through a red light and collided into an SUV, he added. The accident forced the truck to lose control on Grand Avenue south of the 5 freeway, Sadler stated.
A man was traveling in the SUV along with his three little kids, of which one was an infant.
“We’re just thankful nobody in the other vehicle was hurt,” Sadler stated.
The two men riding in the truck were hurt in the accident and were transported to a hospital in the area, he said. They have been taken into custody but their names remain confidential. Sadler reported that police will charge the men with felony avoiding arrest.
Officers searched the truck but did not find narcotics, but they are investigating the roads they traveled on to see if narcotics were tossed from the car, he stated.
