Staten Island, NY –A 57-year-old grandmother was killed by a hit-and-run driver as she was walking home from services at Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Benedicta Church with her grandson on Thursday night.  Clara Almazo and her 8-year-old grandson, Brian Herrera-Ramirez, were crossing Cary Avenue when a man driving a black Ford Escape came at them.  Almazo pushed her grandson out of the way before she was struck and thrown 10 to 20 feet by the impact.  She was taken to Richmond University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.  Her …
